What is a Naturopathic Doctor?

Naturopathic Doctors are expertly trained to diagnose and treat disease in the same manner as conventional physicians, however, they often choose to treat the patient differently, treating the root cause of a problem, rather than simply treating symptoms.

Doctor as Teacher: I always tell my patients I am like their coach, advising and encouraging them on the ways to change the path of their health and their life. The hard work and responsibility is always their own. You have to want to get better.
— Dr. Lori DiBacco

Naturopathic doctors are experts in natural and integrative medicine.

A Doctorate in Naturopathic medicine is obtained at a four-year medical school and includes both classroom and clinical training. In order to become licensed, naturopathic doctors are required to pass a series of Board exams just like a medical doctor. And, while they are trained to diagnose and treat patients with conventional methods, naturopathic doctors often choose to treat patients with an eclectic blend of therapies.

Naturopathic doctors treat the whole person.

When practicing naturopathy, a doctor treats the patient as a whole, considering all aspects that may contribute to illness or prevent healing. Naturopathic doctors educate and empower their patients to prevent disease through healthy lifestyle choices and natural interventions. Naturopathic treatment can work alone or together with other approaches.

Conventional medical treatments mostly involve drugs and surgery, naturopathic doctors know there is another way.

Naturopathic doctors have been trained in a variety of therapeutic tools including vitamins, herbal medicines, clinical nutrition, homeopathy, counseling, acupuncture, pharmacology, and physical medicine.

  • I’ve never worked with a doctor so thoroughly. I trust that Dr. Lori DiBacco is going to help me get to the bottom of some health issues I’ve been struggling with for years. I’ve never had a doctor so invested and cared about getting my issues figured out. Most doctors are quick to prescribe and treat the symptoms… and that’s not how Dr. Lori DiBacco practices. I’m looking forward to what’s to come.

  • My recent intake appointment was organized & professional. Dr. Dibacco was in control of the meeting inquiries from start to finish. I’ve found over the years the outcome of an intake interview less than effective when the clinician allowed me to dominate the session with medical history details that were not otherwise interactive or scripted as part and parcel of the diagnostic protocols associated with such an appointment. Time and money well spent.

  • Dr. DiBacco had never met me before but addressed me warm, professionally, and with kindness. She did really well to make the best use of our time for our initial 15-minute consultation. I was able to explain what is my concern and the Dr. set expectations and gave full explanations of how she practices care. Looking forward to the next meeting and learning what steps are necessary to treat the whole body. Thank you for bringing hope back and a possible new direction of care :)

  • I have been seeing Dr. DiBacco on a regular basis for the past couple of years. When I first went to see her, I was bedridden and on a leave of absence from work. She was able to get me out of bed and back to work within a few months! I am currently fully functional and feeling great! I continue to see Dr. DiBacco to make sure that I am improving and to not slip back. Dr. DiBacco is the most compassionate and thorough doctor I have ever seen! I can't imagine my life without her!

  • Dr. DiBacco has and continues to give excellent care. She’s attentive, competent and kind and thinks outside of the box to help me with my various health challenges. She’s an excellent Doctor and I’m still very happy with the care I receive years later.

  • Dr. DiBacco has helped tremendously in getting my health back on track. She is patient and empathetic, yet clearly has a firm grasp on a wide range of medical knowledge. She sees me, my body, and my circumstances as unique and genuinely wants me to get better. It is amazing how she has been able to identify and treat the root causes of my complications in the time that I have been a patient.
